Awesome article.

I remembered reading this post a while back but I then forgot whose blog it was.

So happy to find it again. It’s a great story, makes me wish I was going to Luang Prabang; just not enough time to fit it in on this trip.

Tod, your thank you is here. I’m sorry for my people.

However, on behalf of the residents in my hometown, let me express my gratitute for saving this lovely town.
I’m originally from Luang Prabang but living in overseas. Indeed, we live in a community; we’re expected to do the right thing because it is right. But most of time people usually say thank you to those who help them, and thats part of Buddhism principles – we should be grateful for those who help us. In this case I think the fire happened at night time and they all wanted to rush to bed to prepare for the next day activities. Or otherwise they were afraid to approach foreigners. But we never forget what you did. What you did would be their topic in a coffee shop or lunch time at noodle shop.

I will vote for you for sure, this is a wonderful story.

Todd, this is a wonderful article. And what a lesson. I was in Luang Prabang in 1999, and I it seems that it didn’t change much since then, which I am glad. I would love to go back again.

I love the way you’ve described Luang Prabang – you took me right back to those eerily quiet streets along the Mekong. Luang Prabang is one of my favourite places in S.E. Asia, so to you Todd, I say ‘thank you’ for saving it from the destruction of fire! Good luck in the writing comp!
